Created in 1844 by Christopher Rawson Penfolds, the Penfolds estate built a fine reputation from 1900 thanks to its powerful red wines. The brand has been the first one in Australia to opt for aging in French oak barrels and to develop inter-vineyard and multi-region blends. Over the years, this Australian estate has become one of the most important in its country, while maintaining its objective of producing wines of the highest possible quality. More than a unique and quality bottle, Penfolds offers its consumers an out of the ordinary sensory and individual experience.

The Penfolds Bin 138 was born in 1992, and is inspired by the wines of the southern Rhone, where the grapes of Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro (Mourvèdre) are used in blends to create full-bodied wines with a rich aromatic profile. The grapes are grown and harvested from old vines in the Barossa Valley. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for 12-15 months.

On the nose, the wine reveals aromas of ripe red fruit, light balsamic notes, and herbaceous hints. The earthy elements of Barossa and the sweet spices abound on the palate. The tannic backbone is perfectly balanced by juicy succulence and fresh acidity. It works very well with lamb and duck.
