Château Batailley 2012
From the famous château estate of the Castéja family, the 2012 Batailley is a very strong effort. This is a big-time sleeper of the vintage. A dense purple wine with loads of crème de cassis, blueberry notes, background forest floor and cedar, this is a strong effort from Batailley and may well usher in a new era for this fifth-growth chateau that is capable of producing great wine. The tannins are sweet and the wine has an opulence and richness that is rare for a Médoc in 2012. Drink it over the next 25 years.

TAYLOR’S RESERVE TAWNY PORT

The bottle has been crafted to resemble an English-shaped flask dating from the early 18th century, and bears the distinctive 4xx merchant’s mark that has been used since around the time of Taylor’s foundation in 1692, and which they still use as their trademark today.

Fleurie Poncereau, Louis Jadot
The vineyards for ‘Poncereau’ lie on the north and west sides of the village of Fleurie. Vinification involves a semi-carbonic maceration, typical of the region, with pumping over of the cap, the wine is aged in oak barrels for around nine months before bottling. Mellow, elegant but also racy, it has a silky texture and plenty of ripe red fruit.

Louis Jadot Bourgogne Macon Rose 75cl
A most innovative development from the very traditional house of Louis Jadot! Made using 100% Gamay grapes which have been vinified in stainless steel, with only a brief period of time on the skins sufficient to extract enough pigment to give this wine a charming deep-pink colour. Dry and crisp with a delightful aroma and palate reminiscent of wild berries and raspberry.

Louis Jadot Gevrey Chambertin 75 cl.
Possibly the most famous of the great communes of the northern Côte de Nuits. These vineyards vary considerably in quality and the name of the producer is perhaps more important here than elsewhere. Louis Jadot wines are consistently reliable and long-lived with the full, rich structure for which this appellation is so famous.
